Little sis update

It sounds like it really went well and she sounds like a great kid! So many kids benefit from just having one on one time with someone that almost any activity will be fine. Walking in a park, listening to her, and sharing your time is probably what is needed most.
I think it went pretty well. The mother was very nice and seemed completely happy to have someone intervene in her child's life for the benefit of a positive influence. This is the part that surprises me, that these parents are not at all defensive or standoffish. They want the help, which is a good thing, I think.
I agree. and the relationship would not work if the parent wasn't supportive.
True...although I have to admit that the scene at her house is very, very sad. The older sister is 15 and has been pregnant four times; the mother started rattling this stuff off right in front of H, even about how she's "put her on birth control." The younger sister has been sexually abused by a man who lived in their basement for a time. The whole thing is very depressing, but somehow, H has a sparkle in her eye that just doesn't quit.
I'm glad it went well and that you are looking forward to the next visit. The home situation you describe is so very sad - I hope you can keep that sparkle in her eyes.
It's really quite sad. I only typed a snippet of what I saw today...there's so much more that I just didn't go into, partially because it's private, and partially because it's too overwhelming to think about and digest. I'm looking forward to get to know this little girl.
All the more reason she needs you!
[this is good]
YAY!!! I am glad it feels like a great match!
It seems like it so far--can't wait to get to know her better!
